Cullinan High School initiative

Safe, confidential & empowered against bullying.

No More Silence at Cullinan is a caring citizenship campaign created to educate learners about bullying, encourage respect, and build a school community where no one suffers in silence.

Our focus

  • Bullying awareness & prevention
  • Emotional & peer support
  • Community & school involvement
  • Kindness building & respect

Campaign message

We want learners to feel seen, heard, and protected. No one should face bullying alone.

01

Our mission

We want to create a safe (confidential) environment where learners who have experienced bullying can share their stories and coping strategies without feeling judged. Our mission is to give learners who have experienced bullying courage, help all learners understand what bullying is and the damage it can cause (for example: a learner cannot concentrate and ends up not doing well), and ensure teachers are aware of bullying dynamics and how to respond effectively. We want the school and community to feel respected, included, and empowered to stand against bullying — a place where no one suffers in silence. Our values: empathy, leading by good example, and courage.

What do we do

We invite guest speakers who have experienced bullying to share their stories with the school and community. We also partner with anti‑bullying organisations, host workshops, and create challenges + peer mentorship activities that promote kindness. On Fridays at school, learners create posters about kindness — winners receive prizes. Role‑play sessions teach learners how to deal with bullying and how to respond safely. We measure effectiveness through a follow‑up audit and student reports. Types of bullying we address: Physical (hitting, kicking), Verbal (insults, threats), Social (rumours, exclusion), Cyber (harmful posts, WhatsApp groups without permission), Sexual (unwanted sexual words/actions), Prejudicial (bullying based on identity, appearance, or stereotypes).

Guest Speakers

Survivors share real experiences to inspire change.

Kindness Contest

Poster challenges & prizes to encourage empathy.

Role Play

Practical scenarios to practice safe responses.

04

Who we serve

We serve learners who have been bullied and are scared to ask for help; learners who have seen someone being bullied but don't know what to do; and learners who have been bullied and are in the process of changing into being a bully themselves. We provide emotional support because when a learner goes through bullying they need people they can talk to. We also build personal strength awareness — reminding learners they are capable of stopping the bullying issue. We do not replace official reporting processes; we focus on peer support, awareness, and kindness building. We chose Cullinan High School specifically because learners are being bullied and do not get enough help.

05

Get involved

Teachers willing to bring materials, school staff providing chairs, former Cullinan High learners (alumni) to help set up/break down and share past experiences, school leaders welcoming guests at the gate, university students (Social Work / Psychology), police officers educating about school safety, and NGO workers focusing on bullying issues. Your help makes the campaign stronger — join us as a volunteer, partner, or supporter.

06

Resources

To implement the campaign successfully we need: the school hall, projectors for presentations, chairs for staff, learners, parents and community, speakers and microphones, name tags for volunteers, security guards, and people to prepare snacks/drinks. We also need skills: setup of projectors, chair arrangement, cleaning, poster design, and snack preparation. Volunteers will be coordinated to make the event safe and impactful.
